Structure S3.5: Paces lessons appropriately to allow diverse learners to grapple with ideas or apply concepts
Activities
- Make class notes, class recordings, etc. available for students to review at their own pace
- Apply "mastery learning", a student-centered pedagogical methodology
- Consider pausing ~15 seconds after you ask a question and/or after a student responds. This allows students to process the question, especially those who process internally. (adapted from the Center for Effective Teaching & Learning at Cal State, Los Angeles).

- repeat or rephrase the question
- ask a student to attempt to rephrase the question
- make the question more specific
- ask students what about the question they do not understand
