Climate C1.1: Uses students’ names
- Use students’ preferred names. Pronounce students’ names correctly. Ask the students to help you with pronunciation if you are unsure. Do not point out that a name is hard for you because it is not from a familiar cultural origin.
- Use students’ correct pronouns. Do not put students on the spot by asking for pronouns in public settings. Instead, have all students submit them online, by email, or on a notecard. More information on pronouns and pronoun use is available here (Bakka and Jennings, 2021, pp. 8-9).
- Thank students by name for questions they ask in class.
